I look forward to welcoming you to London and the Autumn Scientific Meeting which will be held at One Great George Street, an award-winning central London conference venue, situated in the heart of Westminster, surrounded by many landmarks such as the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. This magnificent four-domed Edwardian building will provide the ideal venue for the conference and is adjacent to the River Thames where the conference dinner will be held aboard the Symphony as we cruise down river.
The scientific programme will feature three keynote sessions providing up to the minute presentations by international authorities on areas of innovative clinical practice and related science. The Douglas Lamb Lecture will be delivered by Professor Tom Brushart, Chair of Hand and Peripheral Nerve Surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Tom has recently published his scholarly book Nerve Repair and will present a new categorisation of nerve injuries, 'Evaluating the outcome of experimental Nerve repair'. This will be preceded on Thursday afternoon by a keynote session on nerve repair with contributions by Andrew Hart on neuroprotection, Reimer Hoffmann on endoscopic release of nerve entrapments, Erik Walbeehm on neuropathic pain, and Allen Bishop on motor regeneration and free muscle transfers.
On Friday morning Professor Allen Bishop will speak about allotransplantation and vascularised bone grafting for upper limb defects. Keynote session number 3 will be on Dupuytren's disease with a state of the art presentation by Larry Hurst on collagenase injection therapy. Paul Werker will review genetic mechanisms and point ahead to the clinical trials which need to be done.
The free paper sessions will follow the popular formula of the spring meeting with different time allocations, and the Bell sessions of 2-minute presentations will be followed by general discussion periods. Paper posters are being replaced by video posters which will be displayed on plasma screens during intervals.
The meeting will be innovative, instructive and inexpensive - in short unmissable.
We look forward to seeing you in London.
